Cahier du Cinéma

Such educated conversations about films inspired them to write critiques. It is in the critiques and articles written in Le Cahier du Cinema that the rules of the New Wave and Auteur Theory began to appear.

Le Cahier du Cinéma was founded in 1951 by Andre Bazin, Jacques Doniol-Valcroze and Joseph Marie Lo Duca. Bazin was very invested and wrote articles for Le Cahier in every monthly issue as long as he was alive. He was considered as one of the fathers of The French New Wave because he served as a mentor to the new generation of directors when they started as editors at the magazine.

In the magazine’s beginning, the three founders would write reviews of film and longer essays with a lot of respect for Tradition of Quality.
